Vilnius → Paris CDG · cross-border rental
What this verifies, cryptographically: the credential is authentic & not expired (issuer signature), bound to the holder (device key + anti-replay), and its issuer is recognised (chains to a trusted authority). Authentic ≠ trusted — a credential from an issuer we haven't onboarded shows as “authentic, issuer not recognised” (amber), never a hard fail.
Works with: France Identité (Partenaires app) — or any wallet holding a PID — for identity; any wallet holding an mDL for the driving licence (France Identité doesn't issue an mDL yet). Standards-based (OpenID4VP 1.0), so it's not tied to a specific wallet.
ℹ️ Demo mode — self-signed reader certificate. France Identité Partenaires works as-is. Other wallets may warn or refuse to share with an unregistered verifier — that's the wallet protecting the user. A production deployment uses a registered, trusted reader certificate. Developers — download our reader certificate and add it to your wallet's trust list to verify against this demo.
What's in the driver's wallet?
Verify the driver
Prove the driver's identity from their France Identité Partenaires wallet (PID). We confirm the name and — from a derived or wallet-attested boolean — that the driver is an adult. We ask the wallet for the 18+ proof and the date of birth together in one request, so the presentation works whichever the wallet actually attests. Either way, the date itself never leaves the verifier: it feeds the 18+ calculation and is discarded before anything is stored, forwarded, or shown here — the rental system keeps the name confirmed above and, of the age data, only ever the boolean.

Driving licence — physical
This driver carries a physical driving licence (no mDL in the wallet yet). It's checked at the counter — or via the existing KYC scan (Veriff) for remote pickup. The EUDI wallet covers identity; the entitlement is verified out-of-wallet.
Check the licence
The driving entitlement is read from the wallet's mobile driving licence (mDL); your rental policy is checked against it. We ask the wallet for the minimum-age boolean and the date of birth together, so a licence that only carries one of the two still works — the date itself never leaves the verifier. A paper- or chip-derived mDL verifies identically.
Always verified: Authentic & not expired Not suspended / revoked

Verify identity + driving licence
One scan proves identity (PID) and driving entitlement (mDL) together — the official “combined presentation” (OpenID4VP / ARF ACP_01). Requires a wallet holding both (EU Reference Wallet). France Identité doesn't issue an mDL yet.

Sign the rental contract
Qualified-style remote e-signature (rQES) driven by the wallet — the signed PAdES contract comes back instantly.
Today, the in-wallet signature (rQES) works with the EUDI Reference Wallet (Android) — the wallet we found implementing the signing role. Demo signature: test QTSP, not yet a legally-qualified QES.

Why three cases — and why the licence's origin doesn't matter
- The provenance is invisible to us. Whether the mDL was created from an old paper/cardboard licence or a chip card, it's issued by the licence authority from its register and signed by its PKI — the verifier checks the same chain. No field even carries the physical origin.
- mDL only carries identity (name, photo, age) + entitlement — enough at the counter, but it's a sectoral credential; PID is the authoritative civil identity (and carries the address).
- Paper licence + PID is the dominant case until mDLs roll out (~2027-2030): identity verified digitally (PID), the paper licence checked manually / by KYC scan.
Proof of address. Rental needs an address (to designate the driver for fines — Fr. art. L121-6). There is no standardised EUDI “proof of address” attestation yet; when the wallet's PID carries a residence address we show it as a declared address — not a legal proof of residence.
Demo on synthetic identities only — no personal data is stored. Verdicts are honest: each credential's issuer is checked against a trusted list — shown as “recognised” (France Identité, EU Reference…) or “authentic, issuer not recognised”, never simulated as verified. Any check not fully run here (e.g. the revocation list's own signature) is labelled as such. The EUDI check does not read a licence's points balance (out of scope) — it complements, never replaces, KYC.
